About
No Shame Study Notes is a project I am beginning as a graduate student preparing for my field exams (following PhD coursework but prior to the dissertation stage). Rather than feel pressured to hide how far behind I have been and am from advisers and fellow students, I’ve opted to go public. Making my notes accessible to the few internet users who may stumble upon them may be a public service for some, but more immediately, I hope this method of note preparation and presentation will accomplish the following:
- Break up a massive project into more easily imaginable (and possible) assignments that once posted can be marked off the list and made visible for much needed feelings of accomplishment.
- Encourage quality note preparation.
- Invite comments and general help regarding accuracy and approach.
- Mark time and gauge progress (Twitter is the tool for a self-indulgent generation, and I will make good use of it).
I have chosen to maintain anonymity so that whatever weaknesses I may make visible here may be kept distant from my future students and employers, though I don’t imagine this to be a major concern. If you are a visitor, welcome and enjoy. If you are one of my professors, I admit that I am terribly behind, but this is a first step toward taking control of the situation.
My hopeful reading schedule: Timeline posted 11.13.2009.
